Sarasota County to consider allowing 170-home development near popular Celery Fields
The plan for a new housing subdivision across the street from Sarasota County’s Celery Fields and local opposition the proposal has spurred will escalate on Thursday when a planning advisory board meets to discuss the issue.
A 51-acre slab of farmland to the Celery Fields’ southeast, across from Raymond Road, is being sold by Smith Properties to the gargantuan housing developer D.R. Horton. However, that sale hinges on the Sarasota County Commission changing the designated land use from a rural to single-family home category.
